Latest paper from Cranfield’s Doughty Centre puts the media under the spotlight

The Daily Telegraph ran a month long expose of MPs’ abuse of parliamentary allowances to subsidise their lifestyles and multiple homes.  Whilst few outside parliament challenged the public service value of the expose, controversy focussed on the fact that the information was sourced from computer discs which may have been stolen.

Andrew Kakabadse, Professor of International Management Development at Cranfield School of Management explained: “Our global study concluded that techno-addiction is all about being addicted to a particular lifestyle (or work style) and as such, is driven by ambition, need for relationships, need for intimacy and social networking and age.  Some people live to socialise, others live to work, whilst others guard their privacy and personal time.”

New Years Honours for ABS Members

New Director for Cranfield School of Management

Professor Horwitz will join the School on 1 April 2009 when Professor Michael Osbaldeston takes early retirement.

Frank joins Cranfield from the University of Cape Town, Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB), where he is one of the longest serving faculty members, having been at the school for nearly 23 years.

OBE for Chair of the Association of Business Schools

This prestigious honour will be received later in the year at an official ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Commenting on being named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, Professor Michael Osbaldeston, said: "I am delighted to receive this award, which not only recognises the worldclass status of Cranfield School of Management, but is also a great personal honour for me after a lifetime's work and achievements in management education in both the academic and corporate worlds."

New BSc Hons degree in Financial Services Management

The Dual Award will combine a BSc (Hons) in Financial Services Management from the University of Surrey with the professional Associateship (Aifs) of the ifs School of Finance.

The four-year qualification will include a professional training year in the third year when students will be spending a year with an employer in the financial services industry.
