Winner of European Business Plan of the Year Competition announced

The venture aims to improve the quality of life for people with sensory disabilities. Their main product, ‘Touch & Hear’, is a multi-functional bracelet that can be used to identify objects by reproducing a recognizable sound for each object detected.

New UK Director for ESCP Europe Business School

Professor Davide Sola, UK director since 2005, will step down from the role but remain as a full-time Associate Professor of Strategy based at the Business School’s London campus. He  will  also act as a Member of the Board of La Banca  del  Mezzogiorno – a  bank recently created by the Italian government to  accelerate the development of Southern Italy – to which he was appointed in March 2010.

Social Entrepreneurs Offered Bursaries

In businesses where profit is not necessarily the primary motive, the level of financial investment required to participate in the BGP can be a constraint. Coutts is therefore leading this bursary scheme which will provide up to five social entrepreneurs with a substantial contribution towards the cost of participating in the programme. This is the second time that Coutts has contributed to the scheme which previously saw two social entrepreneurs, Jason Holt of Holts Gems and Uday Thakker of Red Ochre, go through the programme.  

Cranfield to host Europe’s MBA Business Plan of the Year Competition

Hong Kong’s board rooms also dominated by males

According to the report from The International Centre for Women Leaders at Cranfield in partnership with Community Business, a non-profit organisation based in Hong Kong, just 8.9% of all board positions on Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index listed companies, are held by women. 

The new report entitled, Women on Boards: Hang Seng Index 2009 is based on the highly respected Female FTSE report that has been published for over a decade by Cranfield School of Management, the leading authority on women on boards.

Corporate Britain is Failing Women

The 2009 Female FTSE report from Cranfield School of Management, that details the number of women directors in the top 100 FTSE companies, reveals a discouraging picture for women.  The number of companies with female executive directors is down to 15 (from 16) and there has been a drop in the number of boards with multiple women directors to 37 (from 39). In addition there is a decline in the overall number of companies with women on boards resulting in one in four companies having exclusively male boards.

University of Leicester Develops Training for Small Business Needs

The programme has been devised for First Enterprise Business Agency Ltd. (FEBA) which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Members of the University this month attended the Ethnic Minority Business Awards hosted by FEBA.
 
Elain Crewe, Director of the Leading Edge, said: “The University of Leicester became involved with FEBA when the Chief Executive, Quamar Zaman, approached us about a need, particularly within ethnic minority businesses, for management training.
