Speaking at a dinner held by the Gwent branch of the Institute of Welsh Affairs (IWA), Mr Jones said, “The University is the Assembly’s partner in so much of the regeneration taking place in Gwent. In particular, the new City Centre Campus is critical to the development of Newport, and the Learning Campus is a crucial part of the regeneration of the former steelworks at Ebbw Vale.”

Previously Director of Research, Business and Innovation at the University of the West of England, Professor Hagen has conducted and published a number of studies of European companies’ foreign language usage and needs.

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Hagen said, “I am delighted to be joining Newport’s University at this exciting time in its long and illustrious history. The University is currently carrying out a series of very ambitious expansion plans, in particular, the new £35million City Campus which I believe will regenerate Newport’s city centre.

He said, "Businesses, as well as the growing number of people who use these social networking sites, have to consider the consequences of online security. Employees are using them to divulge large amounts of information, and there are also issues about the effects on productivity and cyber bullying.
