Queen’s means business for UK and China

Representatives from Queen’s University Management School will host a major networking forum in London on Tuesday (24 May) to address the role of higher education and entrepreneurship in building science and technology links with the country.

The China Britain Business Council, the China Innovation and Development Association and the British Council are also involved in organising the event.

World Number One Award for Queen's Academic

David Gibson, from Ballinderry, is the first person in Europe to receive the accolade, from the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

He was recognised for his work in promoting enterprise education throughout Queen’s, the UK’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2009.  His work has seen him introduce a model of enterprise teaching into courses not traditionally associated with enterprise, including nursing and the arts.

Public asked to take part in new online ‘uncertainty’ research

Researchers at Queen’s University Belfast are asking for 300 volunteers to take part in an experiment aimed at improving people’s ability to make better decisions.

Staff from Queen’s University Management School (QUMS), are inviting volunteers to try a new World of Uncertainty quiz game online or in an experimental group.

Global chemical companies could release at least one billion Euro in cash flow if they increase their sustainability performance.

The study identified significant differences in the sustainable performance of chemical companies. It showed the leading companies, Air Liquide and BASF, using their resources up to five times more efficiently than their competitors.
 
In 2007, this meant that both Air Liquide and BASF companies created a sustainable value of around one billion Euro, creating around one billion euro more cash flow than their competitors on average would have created with the same amount of resources.
 

Lancaster University Management School appoints new MBA Director

Chris replaces Oliver Westall who has retired after 40 years service at Lancaster University.  Chris previously directed Executive Education programmes for Lancaster’s corporate and non-profit clients. He was Lancaster’s Deputy MBA Director between 2003 and 2005. As Director of the MBA programme at LUMS, Chris will be responsible for ensuring that the Lancaster MBA continues to be one of the leading MBA programmes in the world.
 

Lancaster University Management School Attracts Creative Leaders from Australia

Three indigenous creative leaders, Alisa Duff, Peter White and Tina Baum were awarded places on the inaugural ACCELERATE Indigenous Australian Creative Leadership Programme and spent five weeks in the UK in November.  During this time they participated in the UK creative sector in a practical way through placements, as well as a range of leadership development opportunities which included time at Forrest Hills, a centre at the edge of the Forest of Bowland near Lancaster.
 

Motivation the key to entrepreneurial success says Queen’s academic

David Gibson, a Senior NICENT (Northern Ireland Centre for Entrepreneurship) Teaching Fellow based in Queen’s University Management School will represent Europe when he shares his business knowledge at the 3rd International Entrepreneurship Summit on Saturday (December 19).
 
The event at the Indian Institute of Management in Kolkata, one of Asia’s finest business schools, will be attended by top entrepreneurs and academics from around the world.
 

Stark Warning for UK Automobile Sector

Findings from the largest ever study of the sustainability of car manufacturing of 17 of the world’s leading car companies have just been published by a leading European research team.

New Degree Courses Improves Jobs Prospects

As a result of establishing the degree, interest has been shown by firms from mainland UK, the Republic of Ireland and here in Belfast.  There has also been interest from further afield with an American insurance giant relocating some of its actuarial functions to Belfast to take advantage of the high calibre of students coming off the actuarial studies degree. One such employer is Kerr Henderson Hewitt, a pensions consultancy based in Belfast, who have offered facilities and support in the development of the degree.

Greenhouse gas performance of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland assessed

The researchers in cooperation with partners from Euromed Management School (Marseille/France) and the Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment (Berlin/Germany) used the sustainable value approach, which links greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and economic performance to calculate greenhouse gas performance in monetary terms. The researchers found that Northern Ireland could increase its economic activity by more than £14 billion, if the Northern Irish economy operated at the GHG-efficiency level of England, Scotland and Wales.
