Enterprising Aston takes a Midlands Business Award

Beating four other of the region’s top universities, Aston received the ‘Midlands Enterprising University of the Year’ award at the Midland Business Awards, held on the evening of 28th January at the Hilton Metropole Hotel.

One of the schemes that gained Aston its award was its work with graduate entrepreneurs in the region - through its management of the regional BSEEN (Birmingham Skills for Enterprise and Employability Network) project.

Nicola Turner leads the way in Engaging the Local Community

The award recognises the success of Nicola and her team at Graduate Advantage, which has already placed 1500 graduates on internships in West Midlands companies in 2010 despite the ongoing financial difficulties in the UK. Graduate Advantage, which is based at Aston University, has also led several other projects for the region with great success, most notably the West Midlands Graduate Internship Scheme.

Birmingham Hospital given coffee boost!

Co-Go Coffee To Go, the innovative coffee business launched by two Aston University graduates, will be setting up their iconic coffee-shaped ‘pod’ outside the Bullring in Birmingham City Centre for the week, donating 20% of all turnover made to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Graduates Simon McCann and Nicolas Holzherr, launched their business in 2009 leading with the concept “morally-conscious coffee with a fair price tag.”

NEW: Development Programme for Marketers

The first session is due to start on the 9th and 10th of October 2008 and will focus on an overview for marketers in business schools and higher education, the first lunch-to-lunch session willl focus on how to preapre a winning integrated marketing plan, the second session will ensure delegates are able to develop a core strategy, including how to segment, target and position accordingly. Day 2 will include a session from Prof. John Saunders from Aston University on how to avoid incompetence and more about why marketing plans fail.
