University of Plymouth partners up with market-leading cash protection company

Saltash-based Spinnaker International is working with academics from the university’s Faculty of Arts on its latest generation of products and services thanks to a Shorter Knowledge Transfer Partnership (sKTP).The 40-week project is the first of its kind in the region following the introduction of the new sKTPs in July, which are designed to be flexible and act as a stepping stone for those businesses that may not have worked with higher and further education institutions before.

Newcastle University Business School Works on $2m Project With The University of Central Florida

Morten Lau, Professor of Economics at Newcastle University Business School, who is a world authority on risk and its effects on human behaviour, will be part of an international team of researchers which includes members from the University of Central Florida and the University of Copenhagen.
“The idea is to look at toll charges and how they influence traffic behaviour through a variety of experimental methods,” said Professor Lau.

Enterprising Students Rewarded

Projects range from developing business opportunities through to getting involved in community projects.

The winners received their awards at an event earlier this week which was also attended by their friends and families and representatives from organisations who sponsored the awards.

Winners are:

Adam Pavey, a first year marketing student, won the Business Link award to develop his idea for a recycled and recyclable pallet as a replacement to the existing wooden pallets that are currently widely used.

Newport Business School Takes Entrepreneurship Sandpit to U.S.

The Newport lecturers are joining over 80 Welsh companies from the technology, aerospace, defence, security and engineering industries who are visiting the U.S. to foster international corporate partnerships as part of the largest international trade mission organised by International Business Wales (IBW), the economic development and trade arm of the Welsh Assembly Government.

Managing Performance in the Credit Crunch

Caroline Rowland, Professor in Leadership Management and Sub Dean of the Faculty of Business, Enterprise and Lifelong Learning, gave a keynote address at this year’s Economics, Business and Enterprise Association (EBEA) Conference, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Chester.

Joining other esteemed academics and business professionals from across the country, Professor Rowland drew on her own research as a leading expert in performance management.

Both Josh and Steph wrote highly focused articles on the topic “My Future Employability: The Benefits of a Business Degree”.
 
Josh discussed the hard choices facing students when choosing a degree and concluded that:
“.... The graduate in business is a Jack-of-all-useful-trades, akin to the Swiss army knife.  Whether wishing to be a derivative trader in the City, start a self-employed business, or having not the slightest clue which career path to follow, he/she can rest assured that a world of potential opportunities awaits”.

New China and UK Research Centre Launched

The research centre is part of a new collaboration between the two Schools, driven by Professor David Lamond, Nottingham Business School’s associate dean. The collaboration will provide opportunities for staff exchanges and joint research projects, funding bids and the publishing of academic papers.

BU’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) has received global endorsement.

The United Nations Global Compact, which consists of leading members of the business and academic community, is the world’s largest voluntary initiative for increasing knowledge and understanding of corporate citizenship and its importance in the world economy. The UNGC agreement rests on ten principles, ranging from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Labour Standards through to anti-corruption.
