Scotland’s First MSc in Social Enterprise launched by GCU

Glasgow Caledonian University’s work in Social Enterprise was recently shortlisted for a national Social Enterprise Award in the Social Enterprise Partner of the Year category.

The MSc is the only postgraduate degree in Scotland designed specifically for the social enterprise sector - a reflection of its growing size and importance. The development of the MSc programme follows the success of the Postgraduate Certificate in Social Enterprise and a demand for more in-depth study around the sector.

Successful collaboration between HP and Portsmouth Business School

The HP employees, known as 'Lean Sigma Black Belts', are an elite group of individuals trained to use 'lean' methodology, which is based on identifying waste within an organisation and focusing on customer needs. Half way through the programme, they are reporting a significant change in how they work within the company.

Employee and student Ray Dodd said: “The course challenges my inherent beliefs, attitudes, behaviours and takes me well outside my comfort zone. I'm learning all the time and the tutors really provoke thought, self reliance and self belief.”

Oxford University Hosts Inaugural Reputation Symposium

Around 40 scholars from universities around the world will come together in Oxford for the Symposium which is themed ‘Charting the Landscape of Reputation’.

Participants will spend two days discussing how reputations are created, sustained, destroyed and rehabilitated and the ways in which reputation acts as a regulatory mechanism.

University of Oxford Launches New Master's Degree in Law and Finance

The University of Oxford’s Law Faculty and the Saïd Business School of the University of Oxford are launching a pioneering new degree programme ‘The Oxford Master’s in Law and Finance’. The new degree, which begins in October 2010, will be a full-time nine-month programme offering students with a background in law the chance to develop an advanced interdisciplinary understanding of financial transactions, and of the swiftly evolving economic and regulatory context.

This new programme is created very much with 21st century business challenges in mind, and explores the key determinants of organisational success from a leadership perspective.

University of Bath to host unique finance research centre

The aim of the centre is to conduct rigorous applied research to identify best practice in the development of finance professionals so that the finance function maximises its contribution to the organisation.

The bidding process saw the University compete against a number of highly ranked academic institutions to secure funding for an initial five-year research programme.

French leaders talk in awe of the Thatcher revolution. The scale and speed of change experienced in the UK in the Thatcher era is something they cannot imagine happening in France without extreme social unrest. Thatcher, they believe, created a dynamic business environment at the expense of social cohesion.
