Cass Business School and Citi announce ground-breaking course

The course’s ten best performing students had the opportunity to take part in an assessment centre from which two students were selected for a six week summer internship with the ECM team at Citi.

The elective, which started in May, was led by Mario Levis, Professor of Finance at Cass and Senior Managing Directors from Citi’s Equity Capital Markets Origination team. It was the first time that Citi have partnered with a business school on a course elective of this kind.

Vince Cable launches first university Regional Growth Fund project in the country

Dr Cable signed the letter confirming that Plymouth University and media partners the Western Morning News could begin the process of funding SME business development in the South West to the tune of £1m.

On a special visit to the University on Thursday, Dr Cable met a number of businesses already working with the institution through its operation of several innovation and incubation centres in Devon and Cornwall as part of the Growth Acceleration and Investment Network (GAIN).

Panmure House restoration gets the go ahead

The decision that a £3m restoration of Panmure House, the historic home of economist and philosopher Adam Smith, in Edinburgh’s Canongate, has been given the go ahead has been welcomed by the building's owner, Edinburgh Business School.

Ousedale students win Arts Business Challenge at Cranfield

Cranfield has recently been ranked by the Financial Times as the top UK business school for customised executive development and first in the world for international delivery.
 
The trophy was presented to the winning team by Councillor Alan Richards, the Mayor of Milton Keynes.  The winners will be joined by the runners-up, from Denbigh School, in the Inter-County Challenge which takes place in the autumn when they will compete against winners of similar challenges from Bedfordshire schools. 
 

EMDA's Legacy to live on at Nottingham Business School

emda will be closing in March 2012, and in order to ensure that the knowledge created through the Agency’s activities can continue to be made available to partners including Local Authorities and Local Enterprise Partnership (LEPs), it is establishing the emda Knowledge Bank in conjunction with Nottingham Business School.   
 

Business Plan 2011 competition winners announced

The competition is open to staff, students and the public. An independent judging panel chose Ben Allen, David Jazani and Tahamina Ajmal as the winners with their entry called ‘Forever!’ All three are University staff with the Department of Computer Science and Technology. They won a total prize fund of £2,500.

Queen’s means business for UK and China

Representatives from Queen’s University Management School will host a major networking forum in London on Tuesday (24 May) to address the role of higher education and entrepreneurship in building science and technology links with the country.

The China Britain Business Council, the China Innovation and Development Association and the British Council are also involved in organising the event.

Sheffield Hallam University appoints new PVC Dean

Professor Hopgood is currently Dean of the Faculty of Technology at De Montfort University, and also has responsibility for the University's international strategy. He joined De Montfort in June 2007, having previously worked for Nottingham Trent University and the Open University. His industrial experience includes work with Telstra Research Laboratories in Melbourne, Australia and Systems Designers plc (now part of Hewlett-Packard).

Business School Students Help Market Local Businesses

Students from Newcastle University Business School have undertaken real-life marketing consultancy projects with businesses, charities and organisations across the region as part of the final stages of their Marketing and Management undergraduate degree.

Designed as a practical alternative to a standard dissertation, this project allows the Business School students to put into practice the lessons learnt throughout their time at University by providing free and practical advice on specific marketing briefs to local businesses.

Scotland’s First MSc in Social Enterprise launched by GCU

Glasgow Caledonian University’s work in Social Enterprise was recently shortlisted for a national Social Enterprise Award in the Social Enterprise Partner of the Year category.

The MSc is the only postgraduate degree in Scotland designed specifically for the social enterprise sector - a reflection of its growing size and importance. The development of the MSc programme follows the success of the Postgraduate Certificate in Social Enterprise and a demand for more in-depth study around the sector.
