Web generation use Facebook to Study in and out of the Classroom

More than a third (39%) of students are now using social media to collaborate in and out of the classroom, more than double the numbers recorded in 2011 (17%).  The data comes from the CarringtonCrisp study, GenerationWeb, supported by the Association of Business Schools and EFMD, which examines how students use business school websites and e-media.

Cass Business School and Citi announce ground-breaking course

The course’s ten best performing students had the opportunity to take part in an assessment centre from which two students were selected for a six week summer internship with the ECM team at Citi.

The elective, which started in May, was led by Mario Levis, Professor of Finance at Cass and Senior Managing Directors from Citi’s Equity Capital Markets Origination team. It was the first time that Citi have partnered with a business school on a course elective of this kind.

Professor of Public Relations proud to be Chair-Elect

The Global Alliance is the global umbrella organisation which links PR and communications professionals around the world through their professional institutions. Membership includes  institutes and organisations from every continent including the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) of which Professor Gregory was President in 2004.  She is both the first academic to be awarded this position and the first woman.

Enter the Entrepreneur - Tomorrow's MBA

The Tomorrow’s MBA study was first run in 2009/2010 to try and understand if the economic recession, and the criticism that the MBA received following the collapse of several banks, had an impact on prospective MBA students. If anything the study suggested a strengthening of interest in the qualification, especially in Asia.

Scotland’s First MSc in Social Enterprise launched by GCU

Glasgow Caledonian University’s work in Social Enterprise was recently shortlisted for a national Social Enterprise Award in the Social Enterprise Partner of the Year category.

The MSc is the only postgraduate degree in Scotland designed specifically for the social enterprise sector - a reflection of its growing size and importance. The development of the MSc programme follows the success of the Postgraduate Certificate in Social Enterprise and a demand for more in-depth study around the sector.

University students most creative in Birmingham

They scooped 17 out of 21 awards  - the most awards gained by any of the city’s universities - in the annual B-Hive competition which celebrates the best in up and coming Marketing, PR, Advertising, Graphic Design and Web Design talent.

Exploring Social Mobility in the Retail Sector

The report was to investigate the factors which impact on career progression and the effect of these on the social mobility of Morrisons staff.

The research illustrates the potential of the retail sector for raising skills levels and providing an important contribution to developing human and social capital. The sector also provides employment opportunities for people from a variety of social backgrounds, often including local jobs for people living in disadvantaged communities.

Successful collaboration between HP and Portsmouth Business School

The HP employees, known as 'Lean Sigma Black Belts', are an elite group of individuals trained to use 'lean' methodology, which is based on identifying waste within an organisation and focusing on customer needs. Half way through the programme, they are reporting a significant change in how they work within the company.

Employee and student Ray Dodd said: “The course challenges my inherent beliefs, attitudes, behaviours and takes me well outside my comfort zone. I'm learning all the time and the tutors really provoke thought, self reliance and self belief.”

Illegal file sharers ‘Robin Hoods of the digital age’

The research by Joe Cox, from the University of Portsmouth Business School, is the first study to distinguish between the characteristics, motivations and behaviours of different types of file sharers. It is published in the academic journal, Information Economics and Policy.

Mr Cox used Finnish national survey data, which captured file sharing habits, socio-economic status and attitudes towards legal and illegal file sharing of 6103 respondents from across a range of income brackets. Ninety-five per cent of the respondents were male and the average age was 28.
