Following a rigorous tendering process the National Policing Improvement Agency selected Warwick Business School to jointly prepare and develop its programme for future police leaders. 

83 delegates joined the programme in the first cohort which includes a postgraduate diploma qualification, job placements and the opportunity to progress to a masters qualification.

In an unusual move, the Institute of Directors’ Chief Economist, Graeme Leach, said Gordon Brown should launch a huge surge in public spending.

Speaking at a meeting of the Association of Universities in the East of England at Cranfield University in Bedfordshire today (14 January), Mr Leach said there was a 50-50 chance of having a weak recession or plunging in a deep downturn of up to six percent of Gross National Product.

Business School’s Accountancy Achievements Add Up to Success

Sharon Dixon’s outstanding performance in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exam placed her first in Wales and 32nd in the world. Her achievement won her the £1000 ACCA Sir Julian Hodge bank award prize.

Public and Private Sector Managers Report Being Most Motivated by Challenging Work

The study follows on from the Ashridge Management Index 2008, published earlier this year, which sought the views of managers in the private sector on a similar range of organisational and personal issues. ‘Challenging and Interesting work’ was ranked as the number 1 motivating factor by both public sector managers and their private sector counterparts. Other motivating factors in the ‘top 5’ for both the public and private sectors were a ‘high basic salary’ and the ‘opportunity to continually learn and develop’.

Building bridges between academia and business

Only 26 per cent of respondents said they had ‘never’ had a business contact with a university down from 47 per cent when the same question was asked as part of the UK Business Barometer (UKBB) survey in 2003. The results show a widening spread of contacts between the business sector and universities, as more companies establish links with higher education and more academics become involved in areas such as expert consultancy, research collaborations, technology transfer and other fields.

The UK Business Barometer, an internet survey run by The University of Nottingham Institute for Enterprise and Innovation (UNIEI) found that 49 per cent of companies surveyed had had a business contact with a university in the previous 12 months.

National Pilot Scheme Tackles Anti Social Behaviour

The Certificate in Neighbourhood Management is a national pilot scheme developed in partnership with the National Policing Improvement Agency and accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

The eight-week course aims to bring community partners together to develop a united front in exploring new ways of building safe neighbourhoods, as the Government plans to roll out Neighbourhood Policing during the next year in every area in England and Wales.
