Vince Cable launches first university Regional Growth Fund project in the country

Dr Cable signed the letter confirming that Plymouth University and media partners the Western Morning News could begin the process of funding SME business development in the South West to the tune of £1m.

On a special visit to the University on Thursday, Dr Cable met a number of businesses already working with the institution through its operation of several innovation and incubation centres in Devon and Cornwall as part of the Growth Acceleration and Investment Network (GAIN).

Ousedale students win Arts Business Challenge at Cranfield

Cranfield has recently been ranked by the Financial Times as the top UK business school for customised executive development and first in the world for international delivery.
 
The trophy was presented to the winning team by Councillor Alan Richards, the Mayor of Milton Keynes.  The winners will be joined by the runners-up, from Denbigh School, in the Inter-County Challenge which takes place in the autumn when they will compete against winners of similar challenges from Bedfordshire schools. 
 

Professor of Public Relations proud to be Chair-Elect

The Global Alliance is the global umbrella organisation which links PR and communications professionals around the world through their professional institutions. Membership includes  institutes and organisations from every continent including the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) of which Professor Gregory was President in 2004.  She is both the first academic to be awarded this position and the first woman.

London School of Economics, Department of Management Joins the Association of Business Schools (ABS)

This brings full membership to 118 UK business schools/schools of management.

Prof.Saul Estrin, Head of the Department of Management, at LSE said:

“We are delighted that LSE's new Department of Management is taking its place with Britain's leading Association of Business Schools”.

Also, two other international schools have also been accepted as affiliates:

• Faculty of Business & Enterprise, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne Australia; and
• Dublin City University Business School

That's Sum Achievement!

Kelly-Jayne Johnson, from Stockton-on-Tees, achieved the spectacular grade in one of her Chartered Institute of Management Accountants examinations (CIMA).

And it's not the only academic success for Kelly-Jayne who graduated from Sheffield Hallam with a first-class honours degree in accounting and financial management in 2008.

The CIMA examinations qualify her as a chartered management accountant and she currently works at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys (TEWV) NHS Foundation Trust in Middlesbrough.

minutes over 6-12 months. Coaching can also be offered via ABS to
members at a competitive price as a separate service outside the cohort
programmes at any stage in your career. 

The Enterprising Academic - University of Plymouth to host Dragon's Den business expert

Doug Richard will be sharing his insights into how academics can embrace entrepreneurship, and translate innovation and research into economic and social benefit.

The Enterprising Academic talk is part of a national tour involving the School for Startups founder, and Mark Prisk MP, Minister for Business and Enterprise.
