Report says office turf wars and dirty politics in decline

The report, published with Warwick Business School, shows that only 31 per cent of the 1,495 respondents view politics as protecting their turf.  Fewer still believe that it is about pursuing personal advantage (21 per cent).  More common is the belief that good political skills are about alliance building (59 per cent), followed by interaction with government (40 per cent) and reconciling differences (39 per cent).

Winners of Idea Idol Announced

An enthusiastic and supportive audience of around 150 student entrepreneurs, local entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, business angels, and representatives of the sponsoring organizations, heard the eight finalists deliver their 2 minute ?elevator? pitches to the judges and audience, and then face the tough questioning of the judges.

The judges were looking for a combination of passion, commitment and ability and, of course, a good innovative idea.

Study into workplace fun receives prestigious award!

Dr Samantha Warren received a 'Highly Commended' award for her thesis entitled "Consuming Work: An exploration of organisational aestheticisation" in the 2006 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Awards.? The research examined workplaces cultures of organised fun and play.  

Emerald Group Publishing publishes the world's largest collection of international business and management journals and the awards seek to encourage, celebrate and reward excellence in international management research.

ABS core partner in New Subject Centre

The Higher Education Academy has announced that the bid to host its new Subject Centre for Business, Management, Accountancy and Finance (BMAF) has been won by the Business School at Oxford Brookes University. ABS will be a core partner in the Centre.

The new Subject Centre will build on and enhance the resources and activities developed by the previous Business, Management and Accountancy Subject Centre. 

Chief Executive

Jonathan Slack is Chief Executive of the Association of Business Schools (ABS).

Jonathan is also Chair of EQUAL, the group of nineteen European Associations which acts as the think tank for EQUIS, the iaccreditation scheme for international business schools.

He has been centrally involved in the development of the National Subject Benchmarks on behalf of the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, for undergraduate Honours degrees and also Masters degrees in business and management including the MBA.
